Washing handknits
Caring well for your knitted goods helps them last longer and stay as beautiful as the day you bought them!
When in doubt, wash knits by hand, soaking them gently in cool water with mild detergent. Wash knits separately at first, as dyed fibers often bleed when they are new.

Rinse, then roll loosely in a towel to remove excess moisture (never wring them out - this will warp the fabric). Lay flat to dry (which may take 1-2 days).

Like washing and setting hair in curlers, natural fibers can be trained after laundering. Reshape delicate pieces while wet to obtain the best results. Gently pinch ribbed or textured designs back into shape to prevent flattening.

Most synthetics, many wool blends, and superwash wools can be machine washed in the delicate cycle and tumble dried on low. A garment bag can reduce pilling and fraying.

A couple of notes... I tend to hand wash all knits, regardless of label claims. And be sure to never bleach or iron knitted pieces!
